Big Bass Classifieds: Winter-time Big Bass Fishing Tip!
Here's a Winter-time Big Bass Fishing Tip for all who may come across this blog. Well, it's really a "Winter-time Big Bass Fishing Secret". But since I am about to tell you what that secret is, it won't be a secret anymore. So ok, you ready? Here it is...
Slow-rolling Spinner Baits!Of course, some of you will say, "that ain't no secret". But when I say slow-rolling spinnerbaits, I mean... SLOW, Rolling, spinner baits. Meaning, You've GOT to have patience for this little technique.
It's all in the presentation!But presentation, is in the technique.
The next time your out fishing (in the dead of winter), check the skys! If they are clear, use a spinnerbait with a "small" (#1, 2) chrome Colorado spinner, in tandem with a small (#1, 2) chrome willow leaf blade. If it is cloudy, use copper colored spinners and blades.
The weight of your spinner bait, should be about 3/8 oz, though I have used 1/4 oz spinner baits, and even the larger 1oz spinnerbait. But I have caught the most and, Biggest fish, on the 3/8.
Spinnerbait Skirt Color:When slow, rolling, spinner baits.
There is but one color to use,
BLACK!!!However, I have found that catches can be increased when certain color combinations are used. Blue-Black spinnerbait skirts work good, as well as Purple-black, Red-black, Black-white, and Black-Chartuese spinnerbait skirts. But remember! BLACK is the color. So don't get off into combinations.
Technique:Cast Out, away from the boat, and allow your spinner bait to "Flutter" down, next to a tree or stump, or some other structure.
You must be able to "feel" the flutter of the spinner bait as it is dropping down deeper and deeper, and deeper, and, ...well, I told you it was going to take patience.
Nevertheless, "feel" your spinnerbait, and follow it with your rod tip as it drops down and finally, touches bottom, so that your rod tip is just about parallel with the water when the spinner bait touches bottom. [
NOTE: Be Prepared for Strikes as the spinnerbait flutters downward.]
Now, with your rod parallel with the water, and some slack in your line. Engage your Big Bass Fishing reel and SLOWLY, pick your fishing rod up to about 10:00 - 11:00 o'clock [just enough to pick the spinner bait up, and get it to spinning (fluttering) again, and then begin reeling up the slack until your fishing rod is back to about 9:30 - 10:30 o'clock, keeping just a bit of slack in your line so that you can feel the weight and action of the spinnerbait as it travels along the bottom of the lake. [Also so that when he Hits it, he won't jerk your rod-n-reel out of your hand.]
The spinner bait should at this point be spinning / fluttering /swimming along the bottom of the lake. Spinnerbaits are pretty good about not getting hung-up on snags and such so don't be afraid to keep it in contact with the bottom. Many times you will need to "Hop" your spinner bait up over a log or tree limb BUT AS SOON AS YOU DO, let it flutter back down and
"WATCH OUT"!Sometimes you won't feel a thing. But, for some reason, the spinner bait didn't go all the way back down to the bottom. It just "stopped". When that happens,
SET THE HOOK!!! And Hard too as remember, fishing line s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-s.
Be prepared with plenty of "spare" spinner baits however, as you may have just set the hook into a log. But on the whole, I have lost very few spinnerbaits fishing this way. And have caught More than enough Great, BIG Bass, to make up for the cost.
